Designation: Principal Scientist
Group Head, Combustion Laboratory, Propulsion Division, CSIR-NAL, Bangalore
Ph. No. 080 2505 1704 / 9740816797
Dr. G. Muthuselvan working as a principal scientist in combustion Laboratory, CSIR-NAL for the last 17 Years in the field of gasturbine combustors. He completed his master degree in the department of Aeronautical Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology (MIT, Anna University, Chennai) in the year 2008. His ME project is on the reacting flow CFD simulation of hybrid rocket motor. After completion of his master degree, he joined CSIR-NAL as a Scientist in the year 2008. He completed PhD in the department of mechanical engineering under the guidance of Prof. T. Sundararajan from Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM, Chennai) in the year 2013-2019. His PhD thesis was titled “Experimental study on lean blow-out, acoustic oscillations and emissions of model gas turbine combustor”.
He is working in the field of design and development of combustor for small gasturbine applications. He carried out several in-house and sponsored projects with GTRE, HAL, PWC and ADA in the field of gasturbine combustor. He was involved in the experimental performance evaluation of HAL-HTFE 25 kN annular combustor and HAL-HTSE 1200 kW reverse flow combustor. He designed, developed and tested the performance of straight flow annular combustor at combustion laboratory. Presently he is working in the development of vaporizer combustor for strategic small gasturbine engine applications. He is also focusing on the development of high intensity combustor and fuel flexible burner for ground powered gasturbine engine applications.
He received CSIR-NAL young scientist award for the year 2019-20 for “Research and development of air-enriched combustion technology for small gasturbine engine applications”. He also received NAL outstanding performance award for the development of gas generator test rig using swirl stabilized burner. He is the EC member of Combustion Institute Indian Section (CIIS). He is also member of ASME Indian section. He published eight international journal papers in peer reviewed journals. He presented 30 papers in national and international conferences. He has guided more than 15 students for their industry M.Tech project work.

Field of interest:

1. Development of annular combustor for small gasturbine engines.
2. Development of high intensity combustor for strategic gasturbine engines.
3. Development of fuel flexible burner for ground power generations using gasturbine engines.
